Dear Applicant

Transition Days 22nd and 23rd June

As you may be aware, we invite all applicants for two transition days to experience life at The Sixth Form at Southmoor. This is compulsory; if for any reason you cannot attend, please inform us directly at southmoor6th@southmoorschool.co.uk, or by calling the main school switchboard to leave a message.

As part of these days you will:

  • Meet your tutors
  • Experience lessons in each subject you have applied for
  • Get to know other students
  • Hear honest advice from year 13
  • Find out how our unique Wednesday study days will work
  • Begin the registration process ready for September
  • Register to receive your personal tablet computer
  • Receive summer assignments
  • Have fun!

These days will include a vital part of the pre-registration process which all students must complete before starting with us in September.  We would therefore ask all students to bring with them a completed admissions form (enclosed with this letter), as well as proof of identity such as a passport or birth certificate.

A buffet lunch will be provided as part of each day; however, we would recommend you bring some money with you to purchase any additional drinks and snacks you may require from our Sixth Form Café.  Current Southmoor Year 11 students who are already registered with our ‘fingerprint’ system will be able to order food in the usual way.  Please dress appropriately for a school environment however you do not need to follow the full dress code.  You may be participating in activities outdoors so please do bear this in mind.

On Wednesday 22nd June at 6pm we invite all parents of prospective students to our Sixth Form Introductory Evening.  This event is designed to ensure all parents are familiar with sixth form procedures and protocol.  We will also cover any changes that will be made for September 2016.

It is vitally important that you start your new course in September knowing that you are happy with your choices.  Whether you are still in two minds about anything, or completely certain, Transition Days are your chance to make sure you have all the information you need.

I look forward to seeing you there.
