Growing Apples

‘Seven years ago, when we opened the doors of our new sixth form, I gave an assembly about apples. I said grades were like apples – good, but they don’t last. What lasts is the tree. I said think of yourself like the tree. Look after yourself, look after your learning and your attitude, and the grades will take care of themselves – you’ll have apples every year.

When those students left, they bought a tree. And this week, I picked the first apple. It will be the first of many.’
