Durham School invited prospective medics and vets for a Multiple Mock Interview (MMI) workshop where they experienced a variety of activities that tested empathy, situational judgement and motor skills. This included describing directions to a blind man and trying to thread string through a polo with tweezers.

Psychology Leeds Trip
Year 13 Psychology and Sociology students attended a ‘strong foundations workshop’ delivered by AQA examiners in Leeds. The interactive workshop encouraged students to reflect on topics from Year 12 and gave valuable exam tips for A-level finals. Students then went head to head with other sixth forms across the country to win prizes!

Orwell Youth Prize Practice
Students from Southmoor and St Robert’s attended a workshop run by the Orwell Youth Prize. The day-long session was based around George Orwell’s values of integrity, truthfulness and fairness and increased their interests in current affairs and social issues.

Looking Back with Durham University
Year 12 historians attended the first of two sessions at Durham University’s History Department where they were introduced to life at Durham through a short lecture before working with undergraduates. They looked at primary source material including the first known narrative of Robin Hood!

The Ordered Universe
We saw the 2018 launch of the OxNet initiative which now has six schools involved across the North-East. Students were invited to St Peter’s Church in Sunderland to learn more about its connections with Bede, a medieval chronicler.
