
A Level Economics develops students’ knowledge and understanding of economic problems and the way economists think and work. This course offers a profound understanding of how economic forces shape societies, influences political decisions, and affects everyday life. Throughout this course students will investigate the UK economy and understand the significance of globalisation. Students are encouraged to use an enquiring, critical and thoughtful approach to the study of economics and to develop an ability to think as an economist.

This is a three-component specification Students need to:
- Theme 1focuses on microeconomic concepts where students are introduced to markets and market failure along with the strengths and weaknesses of possible government intervention. This theme provides a coherent coverage of microeconomics content with students drawing on local, national and global contexts.
- Theme 2 investigates how economic performance is measured and understands when there is economic growth. They will research the UK economy in the last 10 years drawing on local and national contexts.
- Theme 3 builds upon the content of theme 1 and students will explore reasons for business growth or decisions to stay small. This theme also covers microeconomic content, drawing on local, national and global contexts.
In Theme 3 students will understand the significance of globalisation, international trade, the balance of payments and exchange rates. They will examine public finance, macroeconomic policies and the role of the financial sector in a global context. Students will consider the factors influencing the growth and
